buy the most popular phone on Amazon and double check network bands . they never advertise this feature that is irrelevant to the market place but most important to global man
never buy a phone that lack north america network bands unless you will never visit . I also suspect Japan may use those bands . my Hisense phone doesn’t even have band two the most common in northern America
in any case it’s safest to support all bands because why not . no other features is more important than even having a connection . the phone is useless with out internet
I tried to buy esim me in Germany in April and May 2023 but delivery failed . after enormous trouble and three returns in April I finally got an expensive Nokia esim phone in may 2023 . unfortunately it had only four gig ram and one gig memory leak in window manager with gigantic usability results
when it was stolen in south Africa in October 2024 I had to buy a phone from the store the next day . it was a good phone the high volume unisoc that goes buy a variety of names . this one was called Hisense e70 pro . with ram extension called 4 + 4 gig ram that is probably zram compression
the only gigantic flaw only a few network bands but it worked by a hair in Europe and Australia but completely useless in northern America
and 9esim had tons of problems in Australia which I had none on my follow up unisoc . the best seller on Amazon Canada is umidigi exactly the same unisoc model but with almost all network bands . the hardware is identical slightly faster more ram and welcome addition of gyro compass and even nfc now in this cheap model
and it cost even less only hundred euros . so if network bands don’t cost anything seems like insanity to not enable them . in a different world I would have control over system settings . but I only use ADB no unofficial hacks . which means I can’t add the missing network bands
esim will probably be in the next version android 15 unisoc for hundred euros
don’t know why isim never arrive . I haven’t heard anything about it even what is holding it back . it’s hopeless to search the net for info it’s almost like reading the Bible and then try to understand what actually happened . apesplaining what is actually going on

my Hisense API 33 had tons of problems . Australia Optus had no voice

vodaphone didn’t connect at all . same as all accounts in Canada might be a missing network band for activation
when I left Australia the sim shop at the exit down stairs had stopped selling all sim cards except one Telstra brand called something similar that I don’t remember . telsim or something . it gave me my only eid banned message I ever got so far . ever esim chip has a unique eid and they managed to ban mine
but I still have the same Optus number I had the last two summers and the one on my revolut account
my umidigi has zero problems it even works with the strange archaic esim system Bell use in Canada
if you go to a bell store just give them your imei and eid don’t say anything . when all is done you say download failed and they will have a QR code on screen with the bell esim address . notice it has no matching id only a URL this is not an error that’s why they asked for your eid first
9esim can still download it and it works . it will give you the profile they have on record for your eid
in general imei can be any generated number for any esim phone like the latest apple . only eid probably matter for this archaic process . although I don’t know for sure because I gave him the IMEI for slot one that house my 9esim
I don’t know if nekoko send both my eid and IMEI to the download server . I guess it’s possible
for buying Telus Koodo online IMEI was only to verify i wasn’t lying about my esim prowess . asking a brain dead custom for an incompressible long number to check if they really have esim . none of my business

I thought my Australia phone number would be necessary to login in Canada but they never asked for it . scanning my id card and passport took several tries and my facial failed all morning until mid day
even my Nordea bankid QR codes failed all morning . apparently mid day light works wonders for all optical systems . suddenly my facial and QR code worked
I will still keep my Optus number . I have to add a balance every six months

if you are in Halifax that means bell lucky mobile with the strangest esim procedure I have encountered
if you try to buy Koodo only buy vouchers from the gas station . don’t buy prepaid debit card it may not work vouchers are guaranteed to work
both Joker and vanilla debit cards were declined by both Telus prepaid called Koodo mobile and public mobile . but koho accepted my vanilla card but not Joker but I was finally able to buy Telus connection to find that they operate from Montreal
my fifty dollar Joker card went to my revolut account . I have no other need for Canadian bank since I already have revolut Australia . only Telus prepaid is behind a Canadian bank wall
I only lost the card cost and for Joker fourteen percent tax . vanilla had no tax strangely I only paid fifty four for fifty dollars . four dollars for the card . or maybe the Joker card was more expensive
although I haven’t tried top up for any card yet . I don’t know for sure that I can top up lucky . I enabled auto top up with Nordea but with no verification and it will probably fail when they try

except for Australia post where it was useful to use my own number for tracking and they only accept Australia number of course . some banks accept foreign number but no national post office has ever crossed any borders . a phone number is ten digits around here

Canada Post has a flex delivery system that works perfectly for me I get guaranteed delivery everywhere . there is no equivalent system in Australia I have to pick a home address . or a single post office that I can’t change easily
I never verified my account at the post shop because I tried to verify the day I arrive ad lpo and then I never visited a post shop again. only another lpo in appin when my sun panel died and they are not allowed to verify accounts
and amazon always works if you type post office storage or appin lpo or anything they can or amazon can understand as a po box . perhaps any street address or first address line with the word post or post office or po in it
I don’t know how they detect that . it’s not completely safe because my foam mattress from China still failed because they still used a Chinese delivery company in Australia

Nordea doesn’t work at all for amazon and is a nightmare for Uber because you have to disable security before each use . Nordea could make it easier to do it but they have one million customers and don’t care about anything

six gig ram is a huge relief when buying stuff because the check out page never disappear

a side note on phone grip holders
after using a pop socket for years and cheaper knock offs I tried a band grip instead . because I have to try an alternative . the pop socket hold does cause some strain after many hours I can spend twenty hours on an unsolved problem . holding the phone in the same position
now I can’t remove my band as I would like . it’s worse than pop socket with no benefit . after several hours the band cause irritation like anything pressing against your fingers or ears . just like ear muffs after several hours
there’s no way to use any phone grip for ten hours with out strain or irritation or pain
the grip is worse than pop socket and takes longer to pick up
and. one issue unique to me when the tent floor is damp or wet the pop socket raise to the tail and charging port above the floor preventing moisture to enter . the grip can be on water but the crucial charging port is always dry even in heavy rain for days
I don’t want to pull of the band strap now it will have to work also . the glue never comes loose unless you over bear the phone to dangerous temperature it melts
pulling it off could bend the phone case it’s so hard attached
it’s an enormous labor and stress to move my entire data storage hundred gig and over one million files to a new phone
so far everything works on my new phone except one annoyance the fast snappy socket connection to termux API is broken . so I have to use a regular slow broadcast for API . that’s right after I fixed the connection with a new perl script converted from c
my current state of mind
when I aim writing this I am trying to suppress an immense fear and uncertainty over a forest bike tent food expedition in Canada that could result in injury that end my expedition permanently
I mention Japan and new Zealand and hope I make the right decision to not get injured here
early night now next to a small lake that would be paradise anywhere in Scandinavia . but only a few weeks before this expedition i began to realise enormous difference from home
somehow it strikes on forest security management more than anything . I guess there is some kind of limit to insanity elsewhere where it affects more people . but there is no forest security here
reports all over east Canada about fearless bears and coyote . tons of paw tracks in the mud here and hairy dropping . one right next to my on an unusual opening in the forest a clear cliff next to a lake
old and white with tons of hair . could even be bear not perfect sausage more like a pile of dried feces and hair
some on the trail was recent some was months old
no sound so far tonight. just waiting for daylight which takes forever here at forty four degrees . equally cold as Oulu that already has midnight sun
now I hear howling in the distance maybe thousand metres away and I am terrified . it’s 23 20 . I don’t know how long I will take this torture
I also hear barking that is definitely not coyote m hopefully some of the tracks and noises are from dogs . have never longed for a dog more in my life
reading reports of coyote and bear attacks all week . already the night before my flight I was considering a train to Quebec or buying everything in Quebec instead and try to sleep in small forest patches like I’m planning in Japan
from tomorrow or the day after if I’m stuck in the rain another night here next to the lake I will keep my food outside my tent when in the forest like this . and not right next to the trail by the ocean and close to houses
maybe best to the old railway line and hundred meters from houses I will still risk my food inside my tent
it’s wrapped in tons of seventy litre garbage bags but it still probably smell like food for some distance . I want to keep writing or talk to someone but it’s too late in Sweden and I don’t know anyone on this time zone to talk with
I don’t know why I am torturing myself like this . maybe I over estimate the danger . there are signs of danger every where . tons of reports of fearless predators . droppings everywhere . enormous amount of these creatures everywhere and nothing to go on I don’t know if any one has travelled with bike tent food in Canada . food and tent in the forest all night and alone . for six months
I will in the next week order new clothes and bag there if I return to Finland from this disaster
they don’t even allow bear hunting year around despite having forty times more bears than Sweden . and talking to them is like taking to a Hitler voter or my mother . they just can’t understand anything . they don’t claim to understand what one plus one is or how to program a computer but they run public policy they have no merits and don’t claim any and yet they manage this disaster . if I raise my voice I will just be banned from Canada . humans are supposed to be at home tonight . the forest close at ten . four hours before the bar saloon I am asking everyone to add me on Facebook and also if they have heard about anything camping alone in the woods with food in Nova Scotia
I will also need a ride in a few weeks past an impassible deep forest . most of the way I will sleep next to houses as close as possible . better to risk expulsion than violent attack . I am almost wishing they send me home
talking to them about politics is like talking to a smiling Downy . I know now intellectually there is nothing I can do in this world they are all brain dead
I am perfectly fine with Scandinavia in the summer . I might even continue on a separate expedition with different gear around south east Europe and around Italy
and now my phone holder strap is starting to hurt even more than pop socket
