USB solar panel problem . heat degradation . longevity. sudden death . signal problem . reboot loop

I will try this one instead of Decathlon in Canada . because the dreaded reset loop with USB C . I am impressed with charging . only problem is sudden death in heat. decathlon never dies

I was able to get a new one relatively easy in Australia . just an annoying visit to shops instead of remote delivery service to forest

battery will last one month in absolute emergency and zero use . only brief location check once a day and weather update every few days

I will investigate these problems and hope others can join me or help me connect with producers

market size is nearly zero . I have not been able to speak with any producer . there is no open do it yourself kit with open firm ware and android app for diagnostics if it dies

can some one help me buy this one again . or ask them to return the small panel for sale . it was 14 watt surface size and maybe three hundred gram . and most importantly worked . unlike all the others

mini panel heat degradation and sudden death

a two hundred grams panel is sold under innowa and flex from Amazon . another from big blue is no longer sold

the current mini panels die after two or three months from hear degradation

when it’s off in the sun it’s dead or will never work again . it happens with no prior warning

the mini computer still works it shows a boot message . long red five short green long red . the green flash is the boot message . it tries again and then writes a fail bit that is cleared after around ten minutes closed

there is no error message from the lights . only the boot message five green flashes then off

it has to be closed to five or ten minutes to clear the state memory . if boot diagnostic fails it will try again once and then write a fail state as long as the capacitor has energy . which may be ten minutes for that tiny computer

if a battery is connected when first opened it will even give a current reading before dying . indicating only minor error . other wise the current reading should be zero . I got a reading of half an amp for a second before it shut off

decathlon panel degrade to half amp but never dies . new panel.van charge three amps for hours . after a few months it starts at three amps but degrade to half amp when warm after a few minutes

with micro USB I survived on half an amp for a year . with USB C the problem is worse they use an ancient firm ware

they main problem is a reboot loop for USB C . probably related to an ancient design that reboot the battery every current change . USB C support active current management and never require a reboot

I have seen my decathlon panel struggle with USB C and enter reboot loop where it is constantly rebooting the battery over and over . it’s easy to reproduce by connecting to fully charged battery . it will reboot it over and over in a desperate attempt to change the current

as usual I have to start my own company when every one turn me down

the mini panel breaks after two or three months even if I don’t use it on warm days . it can’t handle the heat of the sun for long time use

it’s probably the same component every time . find it and replace it . there are panels that never breaks but they are not possible to buy any more . this is the only one I can buy now

print error message from lights

there is no error message when broken . only the boot message then off . the lights could display various error messages like short circuit open circuit or failure to regulate current or voltage

produce android app that can read text error message

android apps can read error message over USB . the micro computer on the panel still works something else is broken . I need the error message to identify the broken component

lights show only boot message not error code . and android app for boot diagnostic log is much better and easier to communicate than than cryptic light messages

development is also possible . for instance a light weight solar panel two hundred grams that can operate freely in the one to five watt range . with supporting battery . and is not locked to the 2.5 W 500 mA signal all the time . this is a major concern for non motorised expeditions . but could have a broader use of better market offerings in the future

the USB micro computer vary the current continuously . when it works . all I have tried are broken except one Japanese model not sold anymore

either the software is broken or they die in the heat. some one neglected to consider that sun light is hot and created a solar panel that dies when heated . shows you how much effort they put into this tiny market

talking with companies about product problems is futile as usual . the only solution is some one else in public with the same problem . that can do every thing from scratch for the good of mankind and donate all work

all commercial effort seems to fail for some reason . every thing is secret and the whole thing eventually flops like Microsoft windows

the answer to this question is no . small panels operate with any current including zero

I am charging small USB C power bank in 1-5 watt range . the old USB battery charging standard allowed any current in the 2.5 to 7.5 watt range. is that gone in USB C

new batteries don’t have micro USB input that are likely to support the old standard and smaller increments

I need to charge at the maximum available current not a smaller step in a coarse grained scale

I am buying the most sold 10 watt panel two hundred grams for Australia expedition . and two hundred grams power bank

no power bank advertise solar panel compatibility or display wattage . I am buying a USB C wattage display dongle to correct the last problem but the charging levels are never printed . and I have failed to connect with the engineers behind the product . the front facing public email never let anyone talk with engineering

I’ve had gigantic problems in the past with batteries locked to coarse grained levels and charging much below atmospheric conditions because of a lack of a sliding scale

expedition gear in general is a market failure zero demand zero supply

and very last my very useless complain . I never delete this only keep it separate from my productive attempts
